England Seamers Put Pakistan on the Brink at Lord's

England took control of the second Test against Pakistan at Lord's after their seam attack dismissed the tourists for 110 on day two. BBC Sport reported that Ollie Robinson returned 4-11 and Jofra Archer took 3-26 before England reached 81-3 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 261 runs.

England began the day on 248-9 and added 42 runs through Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue, whose last-wicket partnership reached 47. Their final total of 290 was built around Jamie Smith's 61 and Jordan Cox's 55, while Muhammad Abbas finished with 4-73 for Pakistan.

Pakistan were without opener Imam-ul-Haq because of a calf injury and struggled throughout their reply. Azan Awais made 46, the only batter to pass 20, while extras supplied the next-highest contribution. Robinson's accuracy and movement brought four wickets, Archer added three with a spell that reached 95mph, and Tongue claimed two. Atkinson completed an England bowling performance in which the four seamers shared all 10 wickets.

England lost Ben Duckett and Cox inside the first 19 balls of their second innings, both to Khurram Shahzad, and slipped to 13-2. Emilio Gay and captain Joe Root then added 47 before Mohammad Ali trapped Root lbw for 24. Harry Brook successfully overturned an lbw decision on the next ball after review showed an inside edge.

Gay remained unbeaten on 30 when fading light brought play to a close, with Brook alongside him. England finished on 81-3 and had moved well beyond the 180-run first-innings advantage created by Pakistan's collapse. BBC Sport noted that Pakistan's highest total in three innings on the tour was 171 and that they had not yet batted for 50 overs in an innings.

The weather could delay England's attempt to complete the win, with a poor forecast for Saturday raising the possibility of a washout. Even so, three scheduled days remain in the match after England's dominant second day left Pakistan facing a major task to avoid defeat and prevent the hosts from securing the series.
