England Take Command of Second Test as Seamers Dismantle Pakistan

England moved into a commanding position against Pakistan at Lord's after their four-man seam attack dominated the second day of the second Test. BBC Sport reported that Pakistan were dismissed for 110 before England reached 81-3 in their second innings, giving the hosts a lead of 261 runs.

England began the day on 248-9 and added 42 for the final wicket, with Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue extending their partnership to 47. That lifted the first-innings total to 290 after Jamie Smith had made 61 and Jordan Cox 55. Mohammad Abbas finished with 4-73 for Pakistan.

Pakistan were without injured opener Imam-ul-Haq and struggled throughout their reply. Azan Awais made 46, the only batter to pass 20, while extras provided the next-highest contribution. Ollie Robinson took 4-11 and Jofra Archer claimed 3-26, with Tongue adding two wickets as England established a first-innings advantage of 180.

Robinson relied on accuracy and movement while wicketkeeper Jamie Smith stood up to the stumps for much of his spell. Archer offered a contrasting threat with high pace, reaching 95mph during his opening spell, according to the BBC report. Robinson's four wickets raised his return for the summer to 19 wickets in three matches at an average of 8.84.

England then slipped to 13-2 as Khurram Shahzad removed Ben Duckett and Cox. Emilio Gay and captain Joe Root responded with a 47-run partnership before Mohammad Ali trapped Root lbw for 24. Harry Brook overturned an lbw decision on review from the next delivery after replays showed an inside edge, while Gay reached the close unbeaten on 30.

The hosts finished the day with seven second-innings wickets intact and a substantial cushion, although poor weather was forecast for Saturday. England entered the match with the opportunity to secure the series, and Pakistan's highest total in their first three innings of the tour was 171. The remaining time in the five-day Test leaves England strongly placed, but the weather could delay their push for victory.
