England seize 261-run lead after seamers rout Pakistan at Lord's

England moved into a commanding position in the second Test against Pakistan after their seam attack dismissed the tourists for 110 at Lord's. The hosts ended the second day on 81-3 in their second innings, an overall lead of 261 runs, according to the BBC's report from the ground.

England began the day on 248-9 and stretched their first innings to 290. Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue added 42 runs during the morning, taking their last-wicket partnership to 47 and giving the home side momentum before Pakistan began their reply. Muhammad Abbas finished with 4-73 for the visitors.

Pakistan were without injured opener Imam-ul-Haq and struggled throughout the innings. Azan Awais made 46, the only Pakistan batter to pass 20, while extras provided the next-highest contribution. The innings never recovered against England's four-man pace group of Ollie Robinson, Jofra Archer, Tongue and Atkinson.

Robinson led the figures with 4-11, continuing a productive return to the England side. Archer took 3-26 and reached 95mph during his opening spell, while Tongue collected two wickets. Robinson and Archer completed the collapse after a brief rain interruption, with Archer bowling Ali Usman and Abbas and Robinson removing Awais with a short ball.

England then encountered early trouble in their second innings. Ben Duckett was caught at mid-off and Jordan Cox was lbw as Khurram Shahzad reduced the hosts to 13-2. Emilio Gay and captain Joe Root responded with a 47-run partnership before Mohammad Ali trapped Root lbw for 24. Harry Brook successfully overturned an lbw decision first ball after replays showed an inside edge.

Gay reached the close unbeaten on 30, with England firmly in control despite the loss of three wickets. The result would put England beyond Pakistan in the series, and the tourists face a steep task based on their batting returns so far: the BBC noted that Pakistan's highest total in three innings on the tour is 171 and that they have yet to bat for 50 overs in an innings.
