Europe regain Solheim Cup with 15-13 victory over United States

Europe reclaimed the Solheim Cup with a 15-13 victory over the United States at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands on Sunday. El Pais reported that captain Anna Nordqvist's side overcame an 8-8 overnight tie by getting the better of the Americans in the final day's singles matches.

Lottie Woad defeated Auston Kim 2&1 in one of the decisive contests, according to Spanish newspaper AS. When the English rookie secured her point, Carlota Ciganda was already assured of at least a half against Jennifer Kupcho, putting the trophy beyond the Americans' reach. Ciganda went on to complete a 4&2 victory.

AS reported that Julia Lopez also contributed a singles point. Ciganda set up her own success with four consecutive birdies from the second through fifth holes, establishing an early advantage against Kupcho before eventually closing out the contest with two holes remaining.

The outcome followed a fluctuating second day in which Europe had enjoyed several emphatic results. The tournament's official Saturday morning report recorded a 4&3 victory for European rookies Mimi Rhodes and Nastasia Nadaud over Andrea Lee and Auston Kim. Rhodes and Nadaud took the opening hole with a birdie, maintained their advantage and finished the match with three holes still to play.

That same official report underlined the difficulties Woad and Charley Hull had faced together before the singles. Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin defeated them 6&5 on Saturday morning. The Americans moved ahead after a European bogey at the fourth, extended their lead with three birdies and then won two more holes to end the match well before the final green.

Europe had needed an outright victory to take back the trophy. As Golf Digest's competition guide explained, 28 points were available across the three days and 14.5 were required to win; a 14-14 draw would have left the cup with the United States. The Americans entered as holders after winning 15.5-12.5 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia in 2024.
