Novak Djokovic Advances to Dubai Championship Final
Novak Djokovic continued his dominant form at the Dubai Tennis Championships, defeating Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-2 in Saturday's semifinal to advance to his fifth final at the prestigious ATP 500 event. The Serbian star was in complete control throughout the match, showcasing the form that has made him one of tennis's greatest champions.
Djokovic broke Rublev's serve early in the first set and never looked back, using his superior court positioning and tactical awareness to neutralize the Russian's powerful groundstrokes. The world number one's return game was particularly impressive, as he consistently put pressure on Rublev's serve and forced errors from his opponent's usually reliable forehand.
The second set was even more one-sided, with Djokovic racing to a 4-0 lead before Rublev could find any rhythm. The Serbian's serving was exemplary throughout, winning 83% of his first-serve points and never facing a break point in the entire match. His movement around the court looked effortless, belying his 38 years of age.
Rublev, who had been playing excellent tennis throughout the week, was simply outclassed by a player operating at the peak of his powers. The Russian managed just 16 winners compared to Djokovic's 24, and his usually devastating forehand was kept in check by his opponent's defensive positioning and anticipation. Despite the lopsided score, Rublev showed glimpses of his quality but could not sustain any momentum.
Djokovic's victory sets up a final showdown with either Daniil Medvedev or Jannik Sinner, depending on the result of Saturday's late semifinal. The Serbian has won the Dubai title on four previous occasions (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013) and will be heavily favored to claim his fifth crown at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.
In his post-match interview, Djokovic praised the conditions and his preparation for the tournament. 'I'm feeling really good about my game right now,' he said. 'The hard courts here in Dubai suit my style perfectly, and I've always enjoyed playing in front of these crowds. Tomorrow's final will be another great test, but I'm confident in my preparation and fitness level.'
The final is scheduled for Sunday evening, with Djokovic seeking to add another title to his already impressive 2026 campaign. A victory would also extend his remarkable record in Dubai, where he has now won 23 of his 25 matches since first competing at the event in 2007.
