Novak Djokovic Cruises Past Rublev to Reach Dubai Semifinals
Novak Djokovic defeats Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-3 to reach the Dubai Tennis Championships semifinals in commanding fashion.

Novak Djokovic continued his impressive form in 2026, defeating sixth-seeded Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-3 on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. The Serbian legend showcased the form that has made him one of tennis greatest players, controlling the match from start to finish.

Djokovic broke serve early in the first set, taking a 3-1 lead that he would not relinquish. His return game was particularly sharp, neutralizing Rublev powerful forehand and forcing the Russian into uncharacteristic errors. The 24-time Grand Slam champion served out the first set with an ace, capping off a dominant 32-minute display.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with Djokovic breaking serve in the fourth game after a brilliant cross-court backhand winner. Rublev, known for his aggressive baseline game, struggled to find his rhythm against Djokovic tactical precision and court coverage.

Djokovic will face either Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Saturday semifinals, as he seeks his sixth Dubai title and first since 2020. The 38-year-old has looked remarkably fresh this season, winning 12 of his first 14 matches and capturing the Adelaide International title last month.

After the match, Djokovic praised his preparation and physical condition, stating that he feels as motivated as ever to compete at the highest level. His performance in Dubai has been particularly encouraging given his stated goal of winning another Wimbledon championship this summer.

The victory extends Djokovic head-to-head record against Rublev to 5-1, with the Serbian having won their last four encounters. With his movement and shot-making looking as sharp as ever, Djokovic appears well-positioned to add another ATP title to his already impressive collection as he continues his remarkable longevity at the top of professional tennis.
