Coco Gauff Captures Dubai Championships Title with Straight-Sets Victory
The American star claimed her fifth WTA title with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win over Iga Swiatek in the final.

Coco Gauff continued her meteoric rise in womens tennis by capturing the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title on Sunday, defeating world number one Iga Swiatek 6-3, 6-2 in a commanding final performance at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

The 22-year-old American showcased the form that has made her one of the sports brightest young stars, serving with precision and returning with devastating power to overwhelm the Polish defending champion. This victory marks Gauffs fifth WTA title and her second WTA 1000 crown, firmly establishing her as a legitimate contender for major championships.

Gauff started aggressively from the opening game, breaking Swiateks serve early and never allowing the four-time Grand Slam champion to settle into her rhythm. The Americans forehand was particularly lethal throughout the 87-minute encounter, consistently finding the corners and keeping Swiatek on the defensive.

I knew I had to come out with intensity from the first point, Gauff said during the trophy ceremony. Iga is such a champion and has beaten me before, so I wanted to dictate play from the start. My team and I have been working on being more aggressive, and it really showed today.

Swiatek, who had won 19 of her previous 21 matches in Dubai, struggled to find her usual court coverage and precision. The 24-year-old managed just two break point opportunities throughout the match, both of which Gauff saved with clutch serving under pressure.

The turning point came in the seventh game of the first set when Gauff broke serve with a stunning cross-court winner that clipped the baseline. She held serve comfortably to claim the opening set 6-3, pumping her fist as the pro-American crowd erupted in support.

The second set proved even more one-sided as Gauff raced to a 4-0 lead, showcasing the mental toughness that has become her trademark in big moments. Swiatek briefly threatened a comeback by holding serve and creating two break points, but Gauff responded with an ace and a service winner to maintain her commanding advantage.

This triumph propels Gauff to a career-high ranking of world number three when the new WTA rankings are released Monday morning. The victory also provides significant momentum heading into the upcoming hardcourt swing that leads to the Miami Open, where Gauff will be among the top favorites.
