Peschel scores on international debut as United States beat Germany 5-0
Emma Peschel scored on her international debut as the United States defeated Germany 5-0 at the women’s ice hockey world championship. The Americans have now scored 12 goals without conceding in their opening two games.

The United States beat Germany 5-0 at the women's ice hockey world championship on Sunday, with Emma Peschel marking her international debut by scoring in the first period. The Guardian reported that the 22-year-old defender's goal helped the Americans secure a second consecutive shutout in Group A. They have scored 12 goals and conceded none across their opening two games in Denmark.

Watch the highlights:

Casey O'Brien put the United States ahead before Peschel doubled the lead with a wrist shot from the point. O'Brien also contributed an assist in what was only her second international appearance. She had begun her US career with the same return of a goal and an assist in Friday's 7-0 victory against Switzerland, giving her scoring contributions in both of her first two games.

Alex Carpenter made it 3-0 during the second period. Abbey Murphy and Joy Dunne then scored in the third to complete the American scoring. At the other end, goaltender Gwyneth Philips saved all 13 shots she faced, ensuring Germany could not interrupt the United States' run without conceding at the start of the tournament.

The game also brought further additions to Hilary Knight's world championship records. The US captain supplied an assist to take her career tournament totals to 54 assists and 122 points. Defender Caroline Harvey recorded two assists against Germany, bringing her total to five over the opening two games, according to the Guardian's report.

The Americans next face Austria in Esbjerg on Monday. Coach John Wroblewski said his team would take the positives from the Germany victory into that assignment. The United States arrived as both world and Olympic champions, having beaten Canada in overtime in the 2025 world championship final in the Czech Republic and again at February's Milan-Cortina Olympics. They have won 10 of the past 14 world championships.

Elsewhere, Sweden defeated Finland 4-1 in Group B in Herning after losing their opening game 5-1 to Canada. Hilda Svensson contributed a power-play goal and an assist in the victory. Canada were scheduled to play Japan later on Sunday, while the Czech Republic were due to face Switzerland in Esbjerg.
