Kartye caps late Rangers comeback in 3-2 win over Flyers
Pavel Dorofeyev and Tye Kartye scored 89 seconds apart late in the third period as New York overturned Philadelphia's lead. The Rangers earned their second consecutive victory.

Tye Kartye scored with 4:39 remaining as the New York Rangers overturned a third-period deficit to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. According to the Associated Press, Dylan Garand made 23 saves and Adam Fox supplied two assists as New York followed a four-game losing streak with a second successive victory.

Watch the highlights:

Pavel Dorofeyev began the decisive turnaround, beating Joseph Woll on the power play with 6:08 left to make it 2-2. Kartye struck 89 seconds later, scoring his fifth goal of the season. The two late finishes denied Philadelphia a point after the visitors had carried a 2-1 advantage into the final period.

Gabe Perreault had put New York ahead at 4:39 of the opening period, registering his fifth goal and his first since October 19, AP reported. Simon Benoit equalised midway through the second before Noel Acciari gave Philadelphia the lead. Woll finished with 24 saves, while the defeat left the Flyers with a 4-10-4 record.

Wayne Fish's reporting for Flying Fish Hockey detailed how Philadelphia had built that advantage. Benoit's shot went through a Noah Cates screen at 10:10 of the second period, and Acciari scored at 12:09. Earlier, Perreault's opener had come after Marcus Pettersson's shot changed direction off J.T. Miller and then Perreault, giving New York the first goal before Philadelphia's response.

After the game, Flyers coach Rick Tocchet focused on missed opportunities and the team's failure to defend the centre of the ice under pressure, according to Flying Fish Hockey. He said Philadelphia had chances while leading 2-1 but had not converted them. Acciari also described a third period in which the Flyers concentrated on defending their advantage instead of maintaining the approach that had worked earlier.

Denver Barkey, whose penalty preceded Dorofeyev's equaliser, said Philadelphia had become too passive, watching the play rather than pursuing the puck. Travis Sanheim said the team needed to secure at least an overtime point after conceding the equaliser. Instead, the Flyers began their five-game road trip with a regulation defeat and now travel to Calgary for Sunday's game.
