Sennecke and Mintyukov doubles help Ducks hold off Oilers 5-4
Anaheim survived a late Edmonton comeback to win 5-4 at Rogers Place on Thursday, November 5, with Beckett Sennecke and Pavel Mintyukov each contributing two goals and an assist. The Canadian Press reported that the Ducks improved to 8-7-1 with their third consecutive victory, while the Oilers dropped to 11-3-3 after a second straight defeat.
Watch the highlights:
The lead changed hands twice before Anaheim took control. According to Puckwired's game report, Cutter Gauthier opened the scoring on a first-period power play, but Evan Bouchard equalized with 19 seconds remaining before the intermission. Connor McDavid then put Edmonton ahead with a shorthanded goal at 2:34 of the second period, briefly giving the home side a 2-1 advantage.
Mintyukov overturned that deficit with goals at 3:37 and 6:15 of the second period. Sennecke added another with 38 seconds left in the frame, sending Anaheim into the break ahead 4-2. His second goal, on the power play at 1:42 of the third, extended the margin to three and ultimately proved decisive.
Edmonton made the closing minutes uncomfortable for the visitors. Kasperi Kapanen scored on the power play with 3:36 remaining, before Leon Draisaitl brought the Oilers within one in the final minute with their goaltender pulled. McDavid assisted on both goals, but Edmonton could not complete the recovery. He finished with a goal and three assists.
Gauthier's scoring run provided another milestone for Anaheim. Coming into the game after successive hat tricks, he took his total to nine goals in four games, seven of them on the power play, the Canadian Press reported. McDavid, meanwhile, extended both his points and assists streaks from the start of the season to 17 games and reached 44 points.
Laurent Brossoit made 23 saves for the Ducks, while Matt Tomkins stopped 16 shots for Edmonton. Tomkins started with Tristan Jarry unavailable through illness and Devon Levi and Frederik Andersen injured, according to the Canadian Press. Brett Epp dressed as Edmonton's emergency backup. Anaheim continues its trip in Calgary on Friday; the Oilers host Vancouver on Saturday.
