Mat Barzal

Mathew Joseph Barzal was born on May 26, 1997, in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. Growing up in a hockey-loving family, Barzal was introduced to the sport at an early age and quickly developed into one of the most promising young talents in Canadian youth hockey. His natural skating ability and hockey sense set him apart from his peers from the beginning.

Barzal played major junior hockey for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League, where he established himself as one of the premier players in junior hockey. His exceptional speed, vision, and playmaking ability caught the attention of NHL scouts, and he was selected 16th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

After spending additional time developing his game in junior hockey and the American Hockey League, Barzal made his NHL debut with the Islanders during the 2017-18 season. His rookie campaign was nothing short of spectacular, as he recorded 85 points in 82 games and earned the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's Rookie of the Year.
