Nurse's first Sharks goal seals overtime comeback against Blues
Darnell Nurse scored 1:03 into overtime as San Jose twice erased deficits to beat St. Louis 3-2. The Sharks earned their third overtime victory of the season without injured captain Macklin Celebrini.

Darnell Nurse opened his San Jose scoring account with an overtime winner as the Sharks beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 at Enterprise Center on Thursday. NHL.com's Lou Korac reported that Nurse finished a pass from Ivar Stenberg 1:03 into the extra period, delivering a comeback victory after the visitors had trailed twice during regulation.

Watch the highlights:

The result moved San Jose to 3-1-0, with all three wins requiring overtime. Nurse joined the Sharks in a July 1 trade from Edmonton, and his first goal for his new club completed their response to Monday's 5-0 defeat in Dallas. Tyler Toffoli contributed a goal and an assist, while Collin Graf supplied the other San Jose goal.

Field Level Media reported that the Sharks were outshot 11-3 in the opening period before improving enough to share the second-period shot count 12-12. Connor McMichael had given St. Louis the lead at 3:52 of the first, finishing a pass from Mason McTavish. Toffoli brought San Jose level at 8:48 of the second by following up his own rebound.

The Blues went back in front through Dillon Dube's short-handed goal 1:39 into the third period. According to Field Level Media, Dube kept the puck on a two-on-one rush with Pavel Buchnevich and took the shot himself. Graf answered at 6:05, converting a loose puck after Sam Dickinson's pass toward the net struck St. Louis defenseman Adam Jiricek. Robert Thomas later hit the post and had another chance blocked by Kiefer Sherwood.

Alex Nedeljkovic finished with 24 saves in his first appearance of the season after Yaroslav Askarov had started San Jose's opening three games, Field Level Media reported. At the other end, Joel Hofer also stopped 24 shots. The Blues fell to 1-2-1, leaving them without a victory in three games since beating Dallas in their season opener.

San Jose again played without captain Macklin Celebrini because of a lower-body injury. NHL.com reported that he remained day to day after missing a second consecutive game. Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky acknowledged the slow opening period but praised his team's improvement, highlighting Sherwood's late block and Stenberg's pass for the decisive goal.
