Collin Morikawa Wins Genesis Invitational by Two Shots After Final Round 66
Collin Morikawa ended his victory drought in spectacular fashion on Monday, shooting a bogey-free final round 6-under 66 to win the Genesis Invitational by two shots at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
The two-time major champion's flawless closing round included six birdies and showcased the precise iron play that has made him one of golf's most consistent performers. Morikawa's total of 15-under-par 273 was enough to hold off a charging Max Homa, who shot 65 in the final round but came up just short of defending his title.
"It feels incredible to win again," Morikawa said while holding the crystal trophy. "Riviera has always been a special place for me, and to finally breakthrough here after some close calls feels amazing. My iron play was dialed in all week, and I stayed patient even when the putts weren't dropping early in the round."
Morikawa's victory comes after a challenging 2024-2025 season where he failed to win on the PGA Tour despite several close calls. The 27-year-old's ball-striking was never in question, but his putting had been inconsistent until this week at Riviera, where he ranked second in the field in strokes gained putting.
Homa, playing in front of his home crowd, made a valiant charge with five birdies in his final seven holes but couldn't quite catch Morikawa. Hideki Matsuyama finished third at 12-under, while world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler struggled to a final round 72 and finished tied for eighth.
The victory moves Morikawa back into the world's top 10 and provides crucial momentum heading into the Florida Swing and eventually the Masters in April. His combination of elite ball-striking and renewed putting confidence makes him a formidable opponent as the season's biggest tournaments approach. For a player who has already claimed two major championships, this Genesis Invitational triumph serves as a reminder that his best golf may still be ahead of him.
