Sinner Reclaims World No. 1 with Commanding Monte Carlo Masters Victory
Italian star Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets at Monte Carlo Masters to reclaim the world No. 1 ranking, becoming only the third player to win four straight ATP 1000 titles.

Jannik Sinner has done it again. The Italian tennis star defeated Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(5), 6-3 in Sunday’s Monte Carlo Masters final to capture his third ATP 1000 title of the season and reclaim the world No. 1 ranking from his Spanish rival.

Sinner, 24, had lost the top spot to Alcaraz earlier this year but now returns to the summit with momentum unmatched in men’s tennis. The victory marks the Italian’s fourth consecutive ATP 1000 title, joining an elite list that previously only included Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

“Getting back to number one means a lot to me,” Sinner said on court after the match. “The ranking is secondary, but I’m very happy to win at least one big trophy on this surface. I haven’t done it before, so it means a lot to me.”

The final lasted two hours and 15 minutes in blustery conditions that tested both players. Alcaraz raced to a 2-0 first-set lead, converting his first break point with two crisp forehands as Sinner struggled to find his range on serve. But the Italian responded immediately, breaking back and eventually forcing a tie-break.

In the tie-break, Sinner took control at 5-2 before a wayward forehand into the net handed Alcaraz hope. But the Italian closed it out 7-5 when Alcaraz double-faulted.

Alcaraz had two break points in the opening game of the second set but failed to convert. Sinner then broke in the sixth game, again in the eighth, and served out to claim the title.

“Today was very high-level from both of us,” Sinner said. “It was a bit windy, breezy, completely different conditions than the tournament until today. The result is amazing.”

Sinner has now won 17 consecutive matches and becomes the first man since Djokovic in 2015 to win the first three ATP 1000 titles of a season. His head-to-head record against Alcaraz moves to 7-10, with the Italian having won their last two meetings.

The victory completes a remarkable resurgence for Sinner, who also won the “Sunshine Double” last month at Indian Wells and Miami. He had previously captured the Paris Masters at the end of last season, establishing his current four-title streak.
