Viktor Hovland Wins Honda Classic with Final-Round 64 at PGA National
The Norwegian star shoots a bogey-free 64 on Sunday to come from behind and claim his fourth PGA Tour victory at the notoriously difficult Champion Course.

Viktor Hovland produced one of the finest final rounds in recent PGA Tour memory, firing a flawless 8-under 64 to come from five shots behind and win the Honda Classic at PGA National Resort & Spa on Sunday. The Norwegian's bogey-free masterpiece on one of golf's most challenging courses earned him his fourth career PGA Tour victory and first since 2023.

Hovland began the day in sixth place, trailing overnight leader Tommy Fleetwood by five strokes, but quickly made his intentions known with birdies on four of his first seven holes. Playing in the penultimate group, the 28-year-old from Oslo maintained his aggressive approach throughout the round, ultimately posting the lowest score of the week on the demanding Champion Course.

"This feels incredible," Hovland said while holding the winner's trophy. "PGA National is such a tough test, and to shoot 64 on Sunday under pressure is probably the best round of golf I've ever played. Everything clicked today - my putting, my iron play, my course management. Days like this are why we practice so hard."

The turning point came at the famous par-3 15th hole, known as the "Bear Trap" for its difficulty. With water surrounding the green, Hovland calmly struck a 7-iron to within six feet of the pin and rolled in the birdie putt to take the outright lead for the first time all week.

Hovland sealed the victory with a spectacular approach shot to the 72nd hole, hitting a 9-iron to three feet for his eighth birdie of the day. The putt not only secured the win but also capped off a round that will be remembered as one of the finest closing performances in Honda Classic history.

"Viktor played phenomenal golf today," said runner-up Tommy Fleetwood, who shot 71 to finish two shots behind. "To shoot that score on this golf course, especially on Sunday, is really special. He earned every bit of this victory. Watching him play the back nine was like watching a master class."

The victory moves Hovland back into the top 20 of the Official World Golf Ranking and provides crucial FedEx Cup points as he aims to qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship. The win also serves as perfect preparation for the upcoming major championship season, with the Masters just five weeks away.

Hovland's previous struggles at PGA National made Sunday's triumph even sweeter. He had missed the cut in his two previous appearances at the tournament, but clearly learned from those experiences to tame one of the PGA Tour's most challenging venues.

"This course has humbled me in the past," Hovland reflected. "But I've been working hard on my mental approach and course management with my team. Today everything came together, and it feels amazing to finally break through here."

The Honda Classic victory marks Hovland's first win since the 2023 Mayakoba Golf Classic and provides significant momentum as he prepares for the year's first major championship at Augusta National Golf Club in April.
