Babar Azam Century Leads Pakistan to Crushing Victory Over Bangladesh in Karachi
Captain Babar Azam scored a magnificent 142 not out as Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the first ODI at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Captain Babar Azam produced a masterclass in ODI batting today, scoring an unbeaten 142 to guide Pakistan to a comprehensive 8-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening match of their three-game series at the National Stadium in Karachi. The Pakistani skipper's innings was a perfect blend of classical technique and calculated aggression, showcasing exactly why he is considered one of the world's premier batsmen across all formats.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that appeared to offer assistance to both batsmen and bowlers. However, Pakistan's bowling attack, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, made early inroads to reduce the visitors to 94-5 within the first 25 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim provided resistance with a well-crafted 67, but regular wickets prevented Bangladesh from building any meaningful partnerships. They were eventually dismissed for 228 in 47.3 overs, a total that looked well below par on a good batting surface.

Pakistan's chase began aggressively as Babar and opening partner Imam-ul-Haq put together a 98-run stand that set the foundation for a comfortable victory. Babar looked in sublime touch from the outset, timing the ball sweetly and finding gaps in the field with remarkable consistency. His signature cover drives were on full display, while his ability to rotate the strike kept the scoreboard ticking over at a healthy rate throughout the partnership.

After Imam's dismissal for 43, Babar found an able ally in Mohammad Rizwan, and together they effectively ended the contest with a devastating partnership of 132 runs. Babar reached his 19th ODI century with a perfectly timed flick through midwicket, celebrating with his characteristic understated style while the Karachi crowd erupted in appreciation. His knock included 14 boundaries and demonstrated the full range of his strokeplay.

"It feels great to contribute to the team's victory in front of our home crowd," Babar said after being named Player of the Match. "The pitch was good for batting, and I tried to build partnerships and play according to the situation. The bowling unit did an excellent job to restrict Bangladesh to a manageable total, and it made our job easier with the bat. We'll look to maintain this momentum in the remaining matches."

Rizwan remained unbeaten on 58 as Pakistan reached their target with 7.2 overs to spare, completing a dominant performance that puts them 1-0 up in the series. The victory was particularly satisfying for Pakistan as it marked their first bilateral ODI series at home since the resumption of international cricket in the country. With Bangladesh struggling to find form ahead of this year's major tournaments, Pakistan will be confident of securing a series victory when the teams meet again in two days' time.
