The Blaze Clinch Women's One-Day Cup Knockout Place With Warwickshire Win

The Blaze became the first team to guarantee a place in the Women's One-Day Cup knockout stage after completing a 70-run victory over Warwickshire at Edgbaston. BBC Sport reported that the result secured a top-three finish for the Nottingham-based side, who moved five points clear of second-placed Hampshire with their 10th win in 12 matches.

After being asked to bat, The Blaze made 282-7. Orla Prendergast led the scoring with 69, Georgia Elwiss contributed 57 and Kathryn Bryce added 45. Warwickshire fast bowler Issy Wong claimed five wickets for 58 runs, but the visitors still established a total that proved beyond the home side.

Warwickshire reached 148-2 in the 30th over as captain Katie George made 89 and Brooke Halliday scored 52. Their position then deteriorated sharply, with the Bears dismissed for 212 in 43.3 overs. Lucy Higham took 4-41, while Charley Phillips conceded only 17 runs and claimed one wicket across eight overs, including two maidens. Warwickshire remained fourth and in contention for a top-four finish despite the defeat.

Hampshire missed the chance to secure their own knockout place as Lancashire won by four wickets in Southampton. Kate Cross recorded season-best figures of 4-33 as Hampshire were bowled out for 223. Abi Norgove made an unbeaten 70 and Freya Kemp struck 61 from 54 balls, but Emma Lamb's 68 helped Lancashire reach 224-6 and record a third consecutive victory.

Somerset also kept Hampshire waiting by defeating Durham by three wickets at Taunton. Ellie Anderson took 5-40 as Durham reached 248-9, with Emma Marlow scoring 71, Eleanor Larosa 44 and Grace Thompson 41. Charlie Dean made 76 and Niamh Holland 70 in a 104-run partnership before Somerset completed the chase with 32 balls remaining.

Surrey earned a two-wicket victory over Yorkshire at Ampleforth College, their sixth win in 12 matches. Yorkshire were dismissed for 171 after falling from 52-0, with Sune Luus taking 3-33. Surrey then slipped from 106-3 to 148-8, but captain Kira Chathli finished unbeaten on 66 from 75 balls to guide the visitors home. The results leave The Blaze safely through while several rivals continue to compete for the remaining knockout positions.
