Iga Swiatek Defeats Aryna Sabalenka 7-6, 6-4 to Claim Miami Open Title in Epic Final
The Polish world No. 1 captures her third Miami Open crown with a masterful performance against the defending champion.

Iga Swiatek cemented her status as the dominant force in women's tennis Wednesday afternoon, defeating defending champion Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 to claim her third Miami Open title at Hard Rock Stadium. The victory marks Swiatek's 19th WTA title and her second consecutive triumph at the prestigious Florida tournament, demonstrating her continued excellence on hard courts.

The match lived up to its billing as a clash between the world's two best players, with both women showcasing the power and precision that has made them dominant forces on the WTA Tour. Swiatek edged the crucial first set tiebreak with superior court positioning and tactical awareness, winning four consecutive points after falling behind 3-2 to take control of the momentum.

Swiatek's forehand was particularly devastating throughout the contest, generating 28 winners compared to just 19 unforced errors across the two sets. The 25-year-old Polish star also showcased improved serve placement, winning 73% of her first-serve points and successfully defending all five break points she faced during the match.

The decisive moment came in the seventh game of the second set, when Swiatek earned the only service break of the frame with a stunning cross-court forehand winner that left Sabalenka stranded at the net. The crowd of 13,500 spectators erupted as Swiatek pumped her fist in celebration, sensing that the breakthrough she needed was finally within reach.

"This tournament means so much to me, and to win it again feels incredible," Swiatek said during the trophy ceremony. "Aryna is such a tough competitor and always brings out the best in me. I had to play my absolute best tennis today, especially in those crucial moments. The hard court season has been amazing for me, and I'm excited to keep building on this momentum."

Sabalenka, who was attempting to become the first player since Steffi Graf to successfully defend the Miami Open title, put up a valiant effort but ultimately couldn't match Swiatek's consistency in the key moments. The Belarusian's powerful groundstrokes kept her competitive throughout, but 31 unforced errors proved costly against an opponent who rarely gives away free points.

The victory extends Swiatek's remarkable hard court winning streak to 23 matches and moves her closer to cementing the year-end No. 1 ranking with several months still remaining in the season. For Sabalenka, the runner-up finish maintains her position as Swiatek's primary challenger and sets up what promises to be an intriguing rivalry throughout the remainder of 2026.
