Evanilson and Adli strike as Bournemouth extend winning run against Leeds
Bournemouth defeated Leeds United 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, extending their winning run to six matches with goals from Evanilson and Amine Adli. According to John Brewin's match report for the Guardian, Bournemouth have scored 16 goals without conceding during that sequence, with their latest victory secured only after Adli struck in stoppage time.
Watch the highlights:
Leeds had made the stronger start and briefly thought they had taken the lead through Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The striker finished from a James Justin cross, but the ball had rebounded off his biceps as he scored. A video assistant referee review ruled the effort out, leaving Daniel Farke's team without a reward for their promising opening spell.
The decisive first-half change came after around half an hour, when Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford misplaced a pass intended for Ao Tanaka. Justin Kluivert intercepted and supplied Evanilson, who scored his fifth goal in six matches. Bournemouth had struggled to bring their attacking players into the game before the mistake, but the opener shifted the contest in their favour.
Bournemouth manager Marco Rose praised Evanilson's work and finishing afterwards. The forward was withdrawn after 75 minutes with Thursday's Europa League trip to Prague in mind, the Guardian reported. Rose also acknowledged the intensity Leeds had shown early on, when the visitors prevented Bournemouth from repeating their recent pattern of scoring within the first eight minutes of home matches.
Trafford endured further difficulty with his distribution after the interval, although he did save a low Marcus Tavernier free kick. At the other end, Calvert-Lewin received little service and dropped deeper to seek possession. Bournemouth introduced Eli Junior Kroupi, who later provided the pass for Adli to score the second goal and settle the result in added time.
Farke defended Trafford after the defeat, saying he expected the young goalkeeper to win Leeds more points than the error had cost them. He also expressed confidence in his team's performance and commitment. For Bournemouth, the result brought a third consecutive Premier League victory without conceding, a sequence the club had never previously achieved, according to the Opta statistics included in the Guardian's report.
