Fabio Silva’s late equaliser keeps Dortmund level with Bayern after 2-2 draw
Fabio Silva scored an 89th-minute equaliser as Borussia Dortmund drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich on Saturday, leaving the rivals level on 18 points at the top of the Bundesliga. Bayern remained first on goal difference after twice losing the lead. The Guardian’s agency report detailed a match in which Harry Kane missed a penalty, later supplied an assist and also struck the post.
Watch the highlights:
Kane returned to the starting lineup after remaining an unused substitute in Bayern’s 6-1 German Cup second-round win over Magdeburg on Wednesday. He had collected the Ballon d’Or in London on Monday, but could not turn his chances into a goal against Dortmund. His penalty miss came with Bayern leading 1-0, before the visitors scored the first of their two equalisers.
The opening half brought opportunities without an early breakthrough. Michael Olise hit the post for Bayern, while Ismael Saibari missed a chance and Dortmund had a goal disallowed following a VAR review. Konrad Laimer eventually put Bayern ahead in the 38th minute. Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel blocked his initial attempt, but Laimer converted the rebound to give the home side the advantage.
Bayern had an opportunity to double that lead when Kane took a penalty in the 56th minute, only for his effort to hit the crossbar. Serhou Guirassy then brought Dortmund level on the hour. The equaliser followed shortly after Bayern’s missed opportunity from the spot, but Dortmund stayed level for just six minutes before the hosts scored again.
Dayot Upamecano scored Bayern’s second from close range after a Kane assist, restoring the hosts’ advantage. Kane subsequently struck the post with a low shot, leaving the margin at one goal. Silva then delivered Dortmund’s second equaliser with a minute of regulation time remaining, ensuring that Bayern could not convert either of their leads into victory.
There was still a late opportunity for Bayern to win it, but Lennart Karl’s stoppage-time effort hit the crossbar. The Guardian reported that Bayern struck the woodwork four times during the match. The draw left the two clubs inseparable on points, with goal difference continuing to determine their order at the top.
