Yankees Prospect Jasson Dominguez Homers Twice in Spring Training Debut Against Red Sox

New York Yankees top prospect Jasson Dominguez announced his arrival at major league spring training in spectacular fashion on Sunday, hitting two towering home runs in the Yankees' 8-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The 23-year-old Dominican outfielder's impressive debut performance has Yankees fans dreaming of a potential September call-up and beyond.

Dominguez, nicknamed "The Martian" for his otherworldly athletic ability, wasted no time making his mark on the Grapefruit League. His first home run came in the third inning off Red Sox starter Brayan Bello, a 425-foot blast to left-center field that cleared the wall with plenty of room to spare. The switch-hitter's second homer, launched from the right side in the sixth inning, traveled an estimated 450 feet into the parking lot beyond the right-field fence.

"Jasson looked like he belonged out there today," said Yankees manager Aaron Boone after the game. "The power is real, the swing is smooth from both sides, and he's got that natural baseball instinct you can't teach. This is exactly the kind of performance we were hoping to see from him this spring."

The performance capped off a remarkable rise through the Yankees system for Dominguez, who was signed for $5.1 million as an international free agent in 2019. After missing most of 2023 with an elbow injury, he bounced back with a dominant 2025 season at Triple-A Scranton, where he hit .312 with 28 home runs and 89 RBIs while showcasing improved plate discipline and defensive skills.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora, a former Yankees coach, was impressed with what he saw from the young prospect. "That kid has serious tools," Cora said. "The way the ball jumps off his bat is special. He's going to be a problem for opposing pitchers for years to come. The Yankees have a good one there."

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has been cautious about rushing Dominguez to the major leagues, but performances like Sunday's are making it difficult to keep him in the minors much longer. With the Yankees' outfield situation still somewhat unsettled, there's growing speculation that Dominguez could force his way onto the opening day roster with a strong spring showing.

"I'm just trying to take advantage of every opportunity," Dominguez said through a translator after the game. "Playing in front of Yankees fans and against the Red Sox was special. I've dreamed of moments like this since I was a kid. I want to keep working hard and hopefully earn my way to the big leagues soon."

The Yankees' next exhibition game is Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, where Dominguez will look to build on his impressive spring training debut and continue his case for a spot on the major league roster.
