Wales Hand Test Debuts to Rising Stars for Six Nations Opener
Sean Lynn gives first international caps to Seren Singleton and Jorja Aiono as Wales seeks fresh start against Scotland in Women's Six Nations.

Wales head coach Sean Lynn has signaled his intent for a new era by handing Test debuts to two promising talents for Saturday's Women's Six Nations opener against Scotland at the Principality Stadium.

Lock Jorja Aiono and wing Seren Singleton have both earned their maiden international caps after impressive performances with Brython Thunder in the Celtic Challenge, representing the fresh approach Lynn is bringing to Welsh rugby after 12 months in charge.

The selections reflect Wales' determination to move forward from disappointing recent campaigns that saw them claim the wooden spoon in the last two Six Nations championships and exit the World Cup at pool stage last summer.

"Jorja and Seren fully deserve this opportunity and have impressed in the Celtic Challenge and in camp," Lynn explained. "Jorja has a real physicality and edge to her game that we need and Seren's work-ethic and willingness to put her body on the line for the cause are the attributes we are looking for."

Kate Williams will captain the side in the absence of Alex Callender, who has been ruled out of the entire tournament through injury. The experienced back row will lead from the front alongside Bethan Lewis and Bryonie King in what shapes as a formidable loose forward trio.

Veteran Hannah Dallavalle has been named on the bench and is poised to win her 70th cap, providing valuable experience to balance the youthful exuberance of the newcomers. However, there is no place in the matchday squad for international regulars Carys Phillips and Jasmine Joyce, highlighting the depth of change Lynn is implementing.

The front row sees the reunion of Gwenllian Pyrs, Kelsey Jones and Sisilia Tuipulotu, while Gwen Crabb partners debutant Aiono in the second row. The half-back pairing of Keira Bevan and Lleucu George provides continuity from recent campaigns.

In the backline, Kayleigh Powell gets the nod at full-back, with the exciting wing partnership of Lisa Neumann and debutant Singleton offering pace and penetration on the flanks. The midfield sees Carys Cox and Courtney Keight given another opportunity to develop their combination following their World Cup partnership.

Lynn has opted for a six-two forward-back split on the bench, emphasizing the physical battle he expects against Scotland. The inclusion of experienced campaigners Donna Rose, Georgia Evans and Dallavalle among the replacements provides insurance and leadership depth.

With nine uncapped players in the wider squad and a completely refreshed backroom staff, Lynn acknowledges this represents a clean slate for Welsh women's rugby. "This is a fresh start for Wales and is the first step for this new group of players, coaches and staff," he emphasized.

"The players know we are representing the nation, our families and ourselves and this is an opportunity to show who we are and what it means to wear the red jersey."

The match kicks off at 4:40 PM on Saturday, with Wales desperate to avoid another championship campaign that ends in disappointment.
