Frylinck century gives Namibia series lead despite Campher hundred
Namibia moved 2-1 ahead in their five-match one-day international series against Ireland with a 63-run victory in Windhoek on Tuesday. Jan Frylinck's 126 helped the hosts reach 316-7 before Ireland's reply ended at 253, despite a century from Curtis Campher. BBC Sport reported that the result left the tourists trailing with two matches remaining.
Watch the highlights:
After choosing to bat, Namibia lost Louren Steenkamp for 13 and later stood at 81-2 when Malan Kruger departed for 42. Frylinck and captain Gerhard Erasmus then rebuilt the innings together, with Erasmus contributing 54. Alex Volschenk added 36, while Andy McBrine took 2-53 and Campher returned 2-68 for Ireland.
Ireland's chase was disrupted before it began by captain Paul Stirling's finger injury, sustained while fielding. Cricket Ireland confirmed he did not bat. Cade Carmichael opened in his absence but was trapped lbw by Bernard Scholtz for a duck in the first over. By the time Campher arrived in the 12th over, the visitors were 56-4 and facing a target of 317.
Campher reached his half-century from 45 balls and needed only another 37 deliveries to complete his second ODI hundred, according to Cricket Ireland's match report. He struck 11 fours and three sixes during his innings. McBrine contributed 30 and George Dockrell made 25 as Ireland attempted to recover from the early loss of wickets.
The chase suffered another major setback when Campher was run out attempting a second run, leaving Ireland at 246-7. His 106 could not prevent defeat, with Stirling still unable to take part and the remaining wickets falling soon afterwards. BBC Sport reported that Scholtz, Ruben Trumpelmann and Jack Brassell each finished with two wickets for Namibia.
Cricbuzz's series results show Ireland won the opening match by 55 runs before Namibia levelled with a 31-run victory in the second ODI. Tuesday's win therefore gave the hosts consecutive successes and their first lead in the series. The remaining games are scheduled for Friday and Sunday, leaving Ireland needing both to secure the series outright.
