Manchester City Extends Unbeaten Run with Clinical Victory Over Brighton
Pep Guardiola's side secured a commanding 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester City continued their dominant form in the Premier League with a convincing 3-1 victory over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium, extending their unbeaten run to 12 matches and maintaining their grip on the title race. Pep Guardiola's side delivered a masterclass in possession-based football that left Brighton chasing shadows for large portions of the match.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with his 25th league goal of the season, converting a perfectly weighted cross from Kevin De Bruyne with a trademark clinical finish. The Norwegian striker's movement in the box continues to terrorize Premier League defenses, and his partnership with De Bruyne shows no signs of slowing down. The goal marked Haaland's 15th in his last 10 appearances, a run of form that has coincided with City's recent surge up the table.

Brighton responded admirably to going behind, with Kaoru Mitoma causing problems down the left flank throughout the first half. The Japanese winger's pace and direct running brought the Seagulls back into the match just before the interval, when his cross was deflected into the net by City defender Josko Gvardiol for an unfortunate own goal. Roberto De Zerbi's tactical adjustments at halftime had briefly shifted momentum in Brighton's favor.

However, City's class shone through in the second half as they regained control of the match through superior technical ability and tactical discipline. Phil Foden restored the lead in the 58th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the box that left Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele with no chance. The England midfielder's goal came after a patient build-up that involved 23 passes and showcased City's ability to create chances through methodical possession.

The victory was sealed in the 78th minute when substitute Julian Alvarez capitalized on a defensive error to slot home from close range. The Argentine's impact from the bench has been crucial for City throughout the season, providing Guardiola with valuable depth in attacking positions. Brighton pushed for a late consolation but were unable to break through City's well-organized defensive structure.

The result keeps Manchester City three points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand over second-placed Arsenal. Guardiola praised his team's patience and composure after the match, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus during what he called "the most crucial period of the season." With the Champions League knockout stages approaching, City appear to be hitting peak form at the perfect time.
