Novak Djokovic Advances to Dubai Championships Final After Defeating Medvedev
The Serbian legend overcame Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 in straight sets to reach his first final of the 2026 season.

Novak Djokovic showcased his championship pedigree once again, defeating Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the semifinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday. The victory sends the 24-time Grand Slam champion to his first ATP final of the 2026 season.

Playing in front of an electric crowd at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre, Djokovic demonstrated the tactical brilliance and mental fortitude that has defined his legendary career. The Serbian controlled the tempo from the opening game, using his exceptional return game to put immediate pressure on Medvedev's serve.

The first set proved to be a masterclass in percentage tennis from Djokovic. Breaking Medvedev's serve in the seventh game with a stunning cross-court backhand winner, the former world No. 1 never looked back. He served out the set confidently, winning 85% of his first serve points and committing just 3 unforced errors.

Medvedev, the defending champion in Dubai, raised his level significantly in the second set. The Russian's aggressive baseline game began to find its rhythm, and he pushed Djokovic to a tiebreak with some spectacular shot-making. However, when the pressure mounted in the tiebreak, Djokovic's experience shone through.

The turning point came at 3-3 in the tiebreak when Djokovic produced a remarkable defensive sequence, turning defense into attack with a perfectly executed lob that Medvedev couldn't handle. The Serbian closed out the tiebreak 7-3 with an ace down the middle, sealing his place in Sunday's final.

"I felt great out there today," Djokovic said during his on-court interview. "Daniil is always a tough opponent, especially here in Dubai where he's had so much success. I had to play smart tennis and stay patient. I'm excited to be in another final and hopefully I can finish the job tomorrow."

Djokovic will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday's final, as he seeks his sixth Dubai Championships title and 99th ATP Tour singles trophy.
