Jackson and Barkley score twice as Aston Villa beat Fenerbahce 6-0
Aston Villa secured their biggest European victory and first home win of the season, with Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley each scoring twice.

Aston Villa beat Fenerbahce 6-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, recording their biggest European victory and first home win of the season. According to BBC Sport, Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley scored twice each, while Johan Manzambi and Tammy Abraham also found the net.

Watch the highlights:

Manzambi opened the scoring before Jackson's two goals established a three-goal half-time advantage. Barkley then converted a penalty and added another goal, with Abraham completing the scoring late on. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki also contributed two important saves as Villa kept the Turkish visitors off the scoresheet.

BBC Sport reported that the victory left Villa with only one defeat in seven games. Unai Emery nevertheless stressed that his rebuilt side still needed time to develop, while identifying the shortage of Premier League points as a priority ahead of Saturday's trip to Newcastle.

The result comes in a campaign Villa entered as Europa League champions. UEFA's team profile records their 3-0 victory over Freiburg in last season's final, which delivered the club's first continental trophy since the 1981/82 European Cup. It was also Emery's fifth Europa League title as a manager, following three with Sevilla and one with Villarreal. Villa finished fourth in the Premier League during the same season.

Manzambi was on the other side of that European final before joining Villa from Freiburg. UEFA named him as the German club's winner of the Europa League Revelation of the Season award and noted his subsequent contribution for Switzerland at the World Cup: three goals and two assists. His move brought a player from last season's beaten finalists into the winners' attack.

Villa's published fixture schedule places this match at the start of their home Champions League programme, with Viking next to visit on October 21. Trips to Barcelona and Galatasaray follow in November, before home fixtures against Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund. The league phase concludes away to Slavia Praha in January. Villa's schedule comprises eight games, split evenly between home and away, in their fourth consecutive European campaign.
