Soucek scores twice as West Ham beat nine-man Lincoln 6-0
Tomas Soucek scored twice as West Ham returned to winning form with a 6-0 Championship victory at Lincoln, whose two early red cards left them facing most of the match with nine players. The Guardian's roundup reported that West Ham led only 1-0 at half-time before adding five goals after the interval at the ProAmpac Stadium.
Watch the highlights:
Tom Hamer was dismissed in the third minute and Conor McGrandles followed 20 minutes later. Despite that numerical disadvantage, Lincoln kept the visitors out until Konstantinos Mavropanos headed the opening goal just before half-time. Edvin Austbø, Jarrod Bowen and Pablo joined Soucek on the scoresheet during the second half as West Ham turned a narrow interval lead into a comprehensive victory.
Portsmouth needed a much later intervention to secure their own home win, with substitute Ebou Adams scoring in the 89th minute to beat Sheffield United 3-2. Zak Swanson and Adrian Segecic had put Portsmouth two goals ahead, with Hamza Choudhury's dismissal for two bookings coming between those goals. Sheffield United nevertheless recovered through Japhet Tanganga and Tom Cannon before Adams settled the contest at Fratton Park.
That late goal gave Portsmouth their third win of the campaign and denied Sheffield United successive victories for the first time this season. The visitors had moved back into contention despite playing with 10 men, but could not protect the level score in the closing stages. Adams came off the bench to deliver the decisive finish with one minute of normal time remaining.
Southampton followed their victory over Portsmouth on Sunday with another 1-0 success, this time away at Norwich. Kuryu Matsuki scored early in the second half to give Tonda Eckert's team their first away league win of the campaign. Norwich suffered a fourth consecutive league defeat, while Southampton stood in the top half after 10 games despite having begun the season with a four-point deduction.
QPR also won convincingly, defeating Derby 4-1 at home. Alfie Lloyd, Nicolas Madsen and Harvey Vale scored before the break, with Madsen converting a penalty. Paul Smyth added a deflected fourth midway through the second half, and Lars-Jørgen Salvesen replied for Derby in the closing seconds. The result continued QPR's strong early-season form, according to The Guardian's report.
