Mahomes Throws for 4 TDs as Chiefs Advance to Championship
Patrick Mahomes showcased why he remains one of the NFL's premier quarterbacks, throwing for 387 yards and four touchdowns to propel the Kansas City Chiefs to a decisive 31-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills in Sunday's AFC Championship game.
The Chiefs quarterback found his rhythm early, connecting with Travis Kelce for two first-quarter touchdowns that set the tone for Kansas City's offensive dominance. Mahomes' precision passing and ability to extend plays with his mobility proved too much for Buffalo's defense to contain throughout the afternoon.
Buffalo mounted several comeback attempts, with Josh Allen throwing for 298 yards and two touchdowns of his own. The Bills cut the deficit to seven points with 4:32 remaining when Allen found Stefon Diggs for a 12-yard touchdown strike, but Kansas City's defense stepped up when it mattered most.
The turning point came midway through the fourth quarter when Chiefs safety Justin Reid intercepted an Allen pass intended for Gabriel Davis, setting up Kansas City's final scoring drive. Mahomes capped the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster with 2:18 left on the clock.
Kansas City's ground game provided crucial support, with Isiah Pacheco rushing for 127 yards on 23 carries. The Chiefs controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the second half, wearing down Buffalo's defense and keeping Allen off the field during critical moments.
With this victory, the Chiefs advance to their third Super Bowl appearance in five years, continuing their dynasty under head coach Andy Reid. They will face the winner of Sunday night's NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles in two weeks.
