Chris Paul Officially Announces Retirement After Legendary 21-Year NBA Career
Future Hall of Famer Chris Paul officially retired Friday after being waived by Toronto, ending a remarkable 21-year NBA career.

Chris Paul officially announced his retirement from basketball Friday afternoon, bringing to a close one of the most distinguished careers in NBA history. The announcement came shortly after the Toronto Raptors waived the veteran point guard.

Paul took to Instagram to make the announcement official, writing: "This is it! After over 21 years, I am stepping away from basketball." The 39-year-old had previously indicated this would be his final season, but tensions with his former team, the Clippers, led to his departure earlier in the year.

The Point God leaves behind a resume that will surely earn him a place in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Paul was a 12-time All-Star and 11-time All-NBA selection who revolutionized the point guard position with his basketball IQ and leadership. His court vision and passing ability made him a five-time NBA assists leader.

Defense was equally important to Paul legacy. He earned nine All-NBA Defensive Team honors throughout his career, proving that elite point guards could impact both ends of the floor. His tenacious on-ball defense and ability to generate steals became a trademark of his game.

Paul international success added another layer to his achievements. He won two Olympic gold medals with the United States men basketball team, helping establish American dominance on the world stage. These international experiences showcased his ability to elevate his game on the biggest stages.

For his career, Paul averaged 16.8 points, 9.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game across 21 seasons. He played for six different franchises during his career, from New Orleans to Los Angeles to Phoenix and beyond. While an NBA championship eluded him, his impact on the game extends far beyond team titles. Paul retires as one of the greatest floor generals in basketball history.
