Jannik Sinner Upsets Novak Djokovic to Reach Indian Wells Final in Epic Three-Set Battle
The 24-year-old Italian saved two match points in the deciding set to defeat the 24-time Grand Slam champion 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) in a thrilling semifinal.

Jannik Sinner announced himself as tennis's next superstar with a breathtaking 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) victory over Novak Djokovic in the BNP Paribas Open semifinals Tuesday, saving two match points in a dramatic third set to reach his first Indian Wells final.

The 24-year-old Italian's remarkable comeback victory over the 24-time Grand Slam champion showcased the mental fortitude and shot-making ability that has many experts predicting he will be tennis's next dominant force. Sinner trailed by a set and a break at 4-5 in the second before mounting an extraordinary recovery.

"Playing Novak is always special, especially in a match like this," Sinner said after the nearly three-hour battle. "He's one of the greatest players of all time, so to beat him and reach my first Masters 1000 final here means everything to me. The crowd was incredible tonight."

Djokovic appeared to be cruising toward another final appearance when he took the first set and broke early in the second. However, Sinner's relentless baseline power and improved net play gradually wore down the Serbian legend, who at 38 showed rare signs of fatigue in the desert heat.

The turning point came in the third set when Djokovic held two match points at 6-5 while serving for the match. Sinner saved both with fearless winners, including a stunning cross-court forehand that clipped the line and brought the Stadium 1 crowd to its feet. The Italian's composure under ultimate pressure was reminiscent of the sport's all-time greats.

In the decisive tiebreaker, Sinner dominated from the start, racing to a 4-0 lead before closing out the match with an ace down the T. The victory marked his first win over Djokovic in five career meetings and arguably the biggest of his young career.

Sinner will face either Daniil Medvedev or Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday's final, as he looks to capture his first Masters 1000 title. The Italian's stunning victory serves notice that tennis's changing of the guard may be happening sooner than expected, with the sport's young stars ready to challenge the established order.
