Zigiotti Olme winner brings Manchester United level with Liverpool in WSL
Julia Zigiotti Olme's sixth-minute goal secured a 1-0 win for Manchester United over Liverpool, leaving both teams on seven WSL points.

Julia Zigiotti Olme scored the only goal as Manchester United beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Women's Super League on Saturday, October 3. The Swedish midfielder struck in the sixth minute at Progress with Unity Stadium, bringing United level on points with their visitors after five league matches.

Watch the highlights:

FotbollDirekt reported that Zigiotti Olme lifted her finish over Liverpool goalkeeper Khiara Keating from outside the penalty area after a mistake by the keeper. It was the decisive contribution in a game featuring six Swedish starters: Anna Sandberg and Hanna Lundkvist joined the scorer for United, while Alice Bergstrom, Cornelia Kapocs and Beata Olsson started for Liverpool.

Liverpool had opportunities to recover from that early setback. According to Sky Sports' match report, Phallon Tullis-Joyce made two saves in quick succession to keep out Kapocs and then Olsson. The United goalkeeper also turned a later Olsson effort onto the post, helping preserve the home side's narrow advantage before the interval.

United threatened a second goal, too. Jess Park carried the ball forward from her own half before hitting the crossbar, while Keating denied Andrea Medina in a one-on-one before half-time. Those chances left both teams with reason to rue missed opportunities, but the score remained unchanged at the break.

Sky Sports reported that Jenna Clark headed wide from a corner in the second half as Liverpool continued to seek an equaliser. At the other end, Elisabeth Terland tested Keating with a curling shot. Neither side could add to Zigiotti Olme's early goal.

Liverpool had retained most of the side that beat Everton 2-0 at Anfield the previous weekend. The club's team announcement confirmed Bergstrom replaced Vivien Endemann in the sole change from that league victory. There had been much greater rotation from the midweek cup win over Birmingham City: only Bergstrom, Olsson and Fuka Nagano kept their starting places.

The result leaves both clubs on seven points. FotbollDirekt placed Liverpool fifth and United sixth after the match, with goal difference separating them. For United, the victory also follows another league win, giving Eva Olid's side consecutive WSL successes, as reported by Sky Sports.
