Zhao Xintong Dominates Trump in Tour Championship Triumph
China's Zhao Xintong delivered a commanding 10-3 victory over world number one Judd Trump to claim his first Tour Championship title and bank £150,000.

Zhao Xintong produced a masterclass performance to demolish world number one Judd Trump 10-3 in the Tour Championship final, capturing his first title in the prestigious event and cementing his position as snooker's rising superstar. The 29-year-old Chinese player's dominant display in Manchester showcased why he has become the most feared competitor on the circuit.

Entering Sunday's concluding session with a narrow 5-3 advantage, Zhao transformed the match into a one-sided affair by claiming the first four frames of the evening session. This devastating run extended his lead to an unassailable 9-3, effectively ending Trump's hopes of adding another major title to his collection.

The victory carries significant financial rewards for Zhao, who pocketed the £150,000 winner's prize and achieved a remarkable milestone in the process. He became only the third player in snooker history to earn more than £1 million in a single season, joining the exclusive company of legends Ronnie O'Sullivan and Trump himself.

Zhao's triumph represents the culmination of an extraordinary campaign that has redefined expectations for sustained excellence in professional snooker. His Tour Championship success completed an unprecedented clean sweep of the Players Series events, having previously conquered both the World Grand Prix and Players Championship in February.

The Chinese sensation's perfect record in ranking finals remains intact, extending his flawless streak to six victories from six appearances. This remarkable achievement places him in rarefied company alongside snooker icons Steve Davis, Mark Williams, and Neil Robertson as the only players to maintain such perfection in major finals.

"This is a big moment for me. Judd Trump is my favourite player. I am really happy and lucky that tonight I am the one that has won," Zhao reflected after his victory. Despite the commanding scoreline, he acknowledged the pressure he felt throughout the contest.

"It may look easy but actually I was very nervous. I am happy to have won all six of the finals I've been in. Manchester is a very good city and the crowd is amazing. I love it here. I tried to enjoy the snooker table. I know it is hard."

Trump's struggles represented a stark contrast to his usual clinical form. The Englishman managed just one break above 60 throughout the entire match, with his highest contribution of 61 arriving in the third frame. His difficulties appeared to stem partly from equipment issues, as he repeatedly examined his cue tip after missing routine shots.

"Disappointed I couldn't perform today for whatever reason," Trump admitted. "I'd have been better off using the spider under the table. It was hard, but it is my own fault for turning up with that tip."

Despite his frustrations, Trump offered generous praise for his conqueror's exceptional form. "He's a great player and he's going to be around for a long time so it is up to me and a few of the other players to start playing well against him otherwise he's going to end his career with 100 tournaments or something like that."

The magnitude of Zhao's current dominance becomes even more apparent when considering his recent demolition of John Higgins in the semi-final. His 10-1 victory over the Scottish legend inflicted the heaviest defeat in Higgins' illustrious 34-year professional career, demonstrating the Chinese player's ability to overwhelm even the most experienced opponents.

With the World Championship beginning in just 13 days, Zhao's commanding performance sends an ominous message to his rivals at the Crucible Theatre. His combination of tactical awareness, break-building ability, and mental fortitude has elevated him to fourth in the world rankings, positioning him as a serious threat to dethrone the current world champion.

Trump acknowledged the broader implications of Zhao's exceptional form over recent months. "I think over these past two months he's been the best player in the world. He's amazing for the game, so I always enjoy the challenge. For me now, it's important to go away and try and improve."

Zhao's six half-centuries during the final exemplified the consistent scoring that has become his trademark, while his ability to capitalize on Trump's errors demonstrated the clinical finishing that separates champions from contenders.
