Zak Crawley extends Kent contract after losing England central deal
Zak Crawley has signed a one-year Kent extension after his England central contract was not renewed. He will remain with the county for its return to Division One.

Zak Crawley has signed a one-year contract extension with Kent, securing another summer with his home county after losing his England central contract. BBC Sport reported that the 28-year-old opener agreed the deal three days after the England and Wales Cricket Board published an updated contract list that did not include him.

Watch the highlights:

The new agreement will take Crawley into an 11th season with Kent, where he made his first-team debut in 2017. He has since appeared more than 180 times for the county across all competitions. His next campaign comes with Kent returning to Division One of the County Championship after winning promotion this season.

Crawley contributed 608 runs in 12 Championship appearances during that promotion campaign. His highest score was 89, one of four half-centuries across the season. The extension keeps him at the county for the move back into the top division, following a year in which his international appearances also came under scrutiny.

He has not played a Test since the final match of last winter's Ashes series in Sydney, according to BBC Sport. His most recent England appearance was in a one-day international in Sri Lanka in January. Across his international career, Crawley has played 64 Tests and nine ODIs, but his place in the England set-up was questioned during the 4-1 Ashes defeat.

In comments reported by the BBC, Crawley welcomed the challenge of playing for Kent in Division One next summer. He also highlighted the young players progressing through the county's system, drawing a connection with his own route into the first team. Helping those players establish themselves was among the contributions he said he wanted to make.

Simon Cook, identified in the report as Kent's director of cricket, praised Crawley's batting ability and influence in the dressing room. Cook said the opener's experience of cricket around the world helped the side on the field, while his willingness to share that knowledge could support the development of younger batters over the longer term.

The county agreement follows the loss of Crawley's centrally funded England deal, but the two announcements concern separate contracts. What Kent have confirmed is his continued place at the club for another season, with the promoted side retaining an experienced opener for its return to Division One.
