York Knights Beat Catalans 28-16 for First Perpignan Victory

York Knights earned their first victory in Perpignan with a 28-16 win over Catalans Dragons, recovering from a difficult start to score five tries at Stade Gilbert Brutus. BBC Sport reported that the result was York's eighth league win of the season and their first success at the venue in five visits, including their first trip there as a Super League club.

Catalans winger Leo Darrelatour put the hosts in control with tries in the fourth and 18th minutes, establishing a 10-0 advantage. York responded through Oli Field, whose fifth try of the season was converted by Cody Hunter. David Noafoaluma then scored in the left corner and Hunter added the conversion, moving the visitors ahead 12-10.

Darrelatour completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time after a run that took him almost the length of the field. Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet converted for a 16-12 Catalans lead at the interval. The hosts did not add another point, however, as York's defense held firm through the entire second half.

Half-back Liam Harris changed the match again in the 52nd minute, covering 70 yards for York's third try and restoring the visitors' lead. Scott Galeano extended the margin in the 64th minute by stepping off his right foot to score the Knights' fourth try. Hunter converted again, continuing a four-goal performance from the tee.

York had to manage the closing stages with Jesse Dee sent to the sin bin, but Catalans could not take advantage. Paul Vaughan crossed in the 79th minute to complete the scoring and confirm a landmark away result in front of York's traveling support. The Knights finished with tries from Field, Noafoaluma, Harris, Galeano and Vaughan.

The victory moved York up to 10th place in the Super League standings. BBC Sport reported that they are now one position and four points behind Catalans, giving the result immediate significance near the lower end of the table. More importantly for the Knights, the comeback combined an effective attacking response to an early 10-point deficit with a scoreless second half for their opponents.
