Yamal to Miss Rest of Season But Expected to Be Available for World Cup After Medical Assessment
Barcelona's teenage star Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the club season following medical assessment, but Spain's national team medical staff expect him to be ready for the World Cup.

Barcelona's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has been ruled out for the rest of the club season after medical assessments revealed the full extent of the injury sustained during Sunday's La Liga match against Real Betis, sources confirmed to reporters on Wednesday.

Watch the highlights:

The 18-year-old winger went down clutching his leg after taking a penalty kick in the 67th minute, with initial fears of a serious hamstring tear. While the injury is significant, medical staff from both Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation have concluded that proper rehabilitation will see him recover in time for the World Cup.

"The prognosis is positive," said Spain national team doctor Carlos Meijide. "With the appropriate rehabilitation protocol, Lamine should be fully fit for the World Cup squad. We're monitoring his progress closely with Barcelona's medical team."

Yamal's injury occurred during a match where Barcelona were already leading 2-0. The young star had been instrumental in their title push, contributing 12 goals and 15 assists across all competitions this season. His absence leaves a significant void in Hansi Flick's squad.

The teenager has been in scintillating form this season, establishing himself as one of Europe's most exciting young talents. His performances earned him a place in the Spain squad for the March international break, where he scored in a friendly against the Netherlands.

Barcelona confirmed that Yamal will undergo a specialized rehabilitation program at their Ciutat Esportiva training complex. The club's medical staff anticipate a recovery timeline of 8-10 weeks, which would place his return shortly before Spain's World Cup squad announcement.

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente expressed confidence in Yamal's recovery, stating that the door remains open for the teenager as long as he returns to full fitness. "We will wait for him," de la Fuente said. "Lamine is a special player, and we'll give him every opportunity to prove his readiness."
