Wrexham beat leaders Middlesbrough 2-0 to end 11-game unbeaten run
George Thomason and Ollie Rathbone scored as Wrexham ended Middlesbrough's unbeaten league run and bounced back from successive defeats.

Wrexham defeated Championship leaders Middlesbrough 2-0 at the Racecourse Ground on Wednesday, November 4, ending the visitors' 11-match unbeaten league run. George Thomason opened the scoring in the second half before substitute Ollie Rathbone added the second. According to Sky Sports, it was Middlesbrough's second league defeat of the season and Wrexham's fourth win.

Watch the highlights:

Phil Parkinson's side had lost their previous two games against Blackburn and Sheffield United. Sports Illustrated reported that the manager made his players review the entire first half of the Sheffield United defeat before facing Boro. He then changed four members of his starting lineup, including recalls for defender Max Cleworth and midfielder Thomason.

The hosts created opportunities before the break but could not turn them into a lead. Ben Whiteman sent an effort wide from outside the penalty area, while Cleworth forced goalkeeper Radek Vitek to save. Sports Illustrated reported that Wrexham reached half-time with one attempt on target from 10 shots, leaving the contest goalless despite their chances.

Wrexham thought they had gone ahead almost immediately after the restart when Lewis O'Brien finished after Vitek could not hold Kieffer Moore's shot, but an offside decision ruled it out. Sky Sports reported that Middlesbrough later received an opening through a misplaced Anthony Patterson clearance, only for Amario Cozier-Duberry to shoot wide in the 66th minute.

Thomason subsequently broke the deadlock with a shot from the edge of the area. Rathbone then headed in O'Brien's cross in the 84th minute to secure the points. Sports Illustrated noted that Wrexham also recorded their first home clean sheet of the season, keeping out opponents who arrived at the Racecourse as the division's leading team.

Speaking after the match in comments carried by Sky Sports, Parkinson praised his team's compact organisation and ability to regain possession. Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg acknowledged the absence of leading scorer Will Lankshear through injury, but also said his team lacked sharpness and created too few opportunities. The visitors were unable to find a goal as Wrexham ended their own sequence of defeats.
