Wrexham Kop plans approved as club targets 2027-28 opening
Wrexham's stadium redevelopment has secured council approval, with the new Kop scheduled to be fully operational for the 2027-28 season.

Wrexham's new Kop stand is scheduled to be fully operational for the 2027-28 season after the club's application received approval from Wrexham County Borough Council this week, BBC Sport Wales reported on Wednesday. The broadcaster said the stand would contain 7,500 seats and lift the Racecourse Ground's capacity above 18,000.

The £70 million project includes dressing rooms, media facilities and hospitality areas. Chief strategy officer Aidan Miller told the BBC the club was trying to prepare its infrastructure for further progress after moving rapidly through the divisions. Wrexham are in the Championship, with promotion to the Premier League still an ambition rather than an achieved outcome.

The construction update follows a separate land acquisition announced on October 2. According to the club statement reported by Football Ground Guide and Yahoo Sports, Wrexham completed the purchase from the Welsh Government of the final plot required for the Kop development. The site lies at the corner of Crispin Lane and Mold Road, behind the stand now being built.

Yahoo Sports reported that the deal places the full enlarged stadium footprint under the club's ownership. It also includes additional land for the public area approaching the Kop from Mold Road. That gives the acquisition a role beyond the stand itself: it covers space intended for the approach to the completed development, alongside the land required for the stadium project.

Chief executive Michael Williamson described completion of the purchase as another milestone in the Kop redevelopment, according to Football Ground Guide's account of the announcement. He thanked the Welsh Government and the club's Wrexham Gateway partners for their cooperation. The outlet also reported visible construction progress, including steelwork and roofing, with crews preparing a lift on September 8 before Wrexham's match against Burnley.

The BBC reported that the stadium work is part of a wider facilities programme. New pitches have been laid at the academy's Darland High School site, the women's base at The Rock has received pitch and gym improvements, and a first-team pavilion has been built at Colliers Park.
