The 2026 World Snooker Championship continues at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield with several marquee matchups determining who will lift the iconic trophy later this week.

Monday's action saw Ronnie O'Sullivan continue his quest for an eighth world title, building a commanding 10-6 lead over John Higgins after the first two sessions of their quarterfinal clash. The Rocket's performance has been clinical, compiling breaks of 138, 127, and 94 as he looks to navigate past the four-time world champion.

Defending champion Luca Brecel faceMark Selby in another marquee quarterfinal fixture. Brecel, who became the first overseas winner of the tournament in 2023, secured a 13-11 victory in a tightly contested second-round match against Jack Lisowski. Selby advanced by defeating Ding Junhui 13-9 in their second-round encounter.

The bottom half of the draw features Judd Trump against Mark Williams in what promises to be an explosive semifinal preview. Trump, a five-time world champion, defeated Barry Hawkins 13-5 in the second round, while Williams overcame Kyren Wilson 13-11 in a grueling contest.

The tournament runs until May 4, with the final scheduled for Sunday May 3 and Monday May 4. Prize money for this year's champion stands at £500,000, with the runner-up receiving £200,000.

"The standard at the Crucible this year has been exceptional," said World Snooker Tour chairman. "We've seen multiple century breaks in almost every match, which shows how competitive the tour has become. The quarterfinals promise to be unforgettable."
