Wolves and Swansea Extend Unbeaten Championship Starts

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Swansea City both extended their unbeaten starts to the Championship season with convincing wins on Saturday. Wolves recovered from conceding in the second minute to beat Stoke City 4-1 at Molineux, while Swansea won 3-0 away to Derby County. Each side has collected seven points from a possible nine.

Press Association reporting carried by The Guardian said Sam Gallagher put Stoke ahead with a 25-yard shot into the top corner after holding off Marshall Munetsi. Stoke then had an opportunity to double the lead, but Sorba Thomas fired wide after Gallagher's shot was blocked. Wolves responded with two goals in three minutes midway through the first half.

Rodrigo Gomes scored both of those goals. He equalized in the 20th minute after Stoke goalkeeper Viktor Johansson parried Raúl Jiménez's effort, then put Wolves ahead three minutes later when Johansson could not hold a cross from Mateus Mané. The quick turnaround gave Wolves control after Stoke's bright opening.

Jiménez added a penalty in the 55th minute after Ben Johnson impeded him while they challenged for Hugo Bueno's corner. The striker sent Johansson the wrong way for his second goal of the season. Jordan James, introduced for Gomes in the 77th minute, completed the scoring six minutes from time by starting a move and finishing it with a shot from 12 yards on his home debut.

Swansea's unbeaten run continued through goals from Joseph Opoku, Eom Ji-sung and Ronald at Derby. Opoku, assisted by Eom, scored his second goal since joining from Zulte Waregem during the summer. Eom then scored shortly before halftime, and Ronald added the third in second-half stoppage time. Derby remained without a win after three league games.

Middlesbrough also recorded a strong result, beating West Bromwich Albion 3-1 at home. Will Lankshear scored twice, taking his total to six goals in five games since his summer move from Tottenham. Jimmy-Jay Morgan briefly equalized for West Brom before Lankshear restored the lead, and Alfie Jones sealed the victory with three minutes remaining. The results left Wolves, Swansea and Middlesbrough among the division's early unbeaten sides.
