West Indies set ODI record with 405-7 as three batters hit centuries against India

West Indies posted their highest total in one-day international cricket, reaching 405-7 against India in the second ODI in Guwahati on Wednesday. John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo each scored a century, according to BBC Sport, as the tourists completed their 50 overs with a national batting record and set the hosts a target of 406.

The innings surpassed West Indies' previous best of 389 against England at St George's in 2019, raising the mark by 16 runs. BBC Sport reported that it was only the sixth occasion in ODI history on which three batters from the same team had made hundreds in a single innings. Jangoo led the scoring with 114, followed by Hope's 104 and Campbell's 101.

Two large partnerships supplied the foundation for the record. Campbell and Hope added 110 for the second wicket in just 79 balls, before Hope combined with Jangoo for a third-wicket stand worth 182. Those successive partnerships contributed 292 runs between them, with Hope involved in both as West Indies built their total around the three century-makers.

Campbell's contribution included five sixes, with the left-handed opener taking 22 runs from one over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. His hundred provided an aggressive start to an innings in which the scoring responsibility was shared across the top order. Together, Campbell, Hope and Jangoo accounted for 319 of West Indies' 405 runs.

India also encountered difficulties beyond containing the batting. BBC Sport reported that Krishna and Naman Dhir picked up injuries, without specifying their nature or severity. Debutant Auqib Nabi conceded 84 runs, which the report described as the fourth-highest tally conceded by an Indian bowler on ODI debut. India had won the toss and chosen to field at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara, according to the BBC scorecard.

The record arrived less than a week after news that West Indies players would face a 25% pay cut under wider cost-saving measures, BBC Sport reported. It did not yet amount to a match victory: India's reply was under way when the scorecard was checked, with the hosts still pursuing the 406 target.
