West Ham beat Wrexham 6-0 to reclaim Championship lead

West Ham returned to the top of the Championship with a 6-0 home victory over Wrexham on Friday, September 11, extending their league winning streak to four matches. The EFL confirmed the result and return to first place, while BBC Sport reported that the Hammers moved a point clear of West Brom.

Six different players scored at London Stadium, with Jarrod Bowen and Joel Piroe giving the hosts a 2-0 half-time advantage. Bowen struck in the 28th minute before Piroe added the second in the 37th. According to Sky Sports' match report, Taty Castellanos created Piroe's goal with a run into the penalty area and a pass for a first-time finish.

West Ham increased their lead three minutes after the restart when Konstantinos Mavropanos headed in Bowen's corner. Castellanos then became the fourth scorer in the 63rd minute after Kyle Walker-Peters supplied him. Sky Sports reported that Mohamadou Kante followed with the fifth in the 76th minute, running onto a pass from Manor Solomon before beating goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

Solomon completed the scoring in the 82nd minute, with Walker-Peters again providing the assist. The final goal capped a second half in which West Ham scored four times without reply. BBC Sport's match statistics recorded 19 attempts for the home side compared with Wrexham's eight, and a nine-to-one advantage in shots on target.

Wrexham remained on seven points and were 16th after the match, according to BBC Sport, which described the result as their heaviest defeat under Phil Parkinson. The visitors had won once in the league this season, although this was only their second defeat. Their next match is at home to Southampton, giving Parkinson's side another demanding assignment after the setback in London.

Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, Parkinson said Wrexham's defending on the opening two goals had been inadequate and that conceding the third had effectively ended their challenge. West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo praised his team's pressing and organisation, as well as the energy contributed by substitutes. The Hammers next host Fulham in the League Cup before visiting Millwall in the Championship.
