Late West Brom goals overturn Wrexham lead as Parkinson explains Moore substitution
Wrexham lost 2-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion after conceding twice in the final 11 minutes, with Phil Parkinson accepting that criticism would follow the Championship defeat. According to BBC Sport Wales, Kieffer Moore had put the hosts ahead with a 30-yard strike before Isaac Price and substitute Aune Heggebo turned the result in Albion’s favour.
Watch the highlights:
The comeback gave West Brom their first league victory in four matches and left Wrexham with their third defeat of the season. For Parkinson’s side, it also ended an opportunity to record successive home wins for the first time since February. Moore’s goal arrived midway through the second half, but Wrexham could not retain the advantage through the closing stages.
Parkinson said the manner of the loss made it more difficult to absorb because his players had sensed that victory was within reach. He acknowledged that the team would face criticism and said they accepted it. His response was to call for a review of the performance, with the focus on identifying areas that could be improved rather than expecting sympathy after the defeat.
The Wrexham manager also explained his decision to substitute Moore soon after the striker scored. The 34-year-old Wales international had completed the full match in the previous Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Derby County. Parkinson said that had been Moore’s first 90-minute appearance for some time, and that, having selected him again, he also needed to protect the forward’s workload.
Parkinson praised Moore’s start to the campaign, saying the long-range effort took him to four goals for the season, alongside several assists. He highlighted the variety of the striker’s goals and felt the latest deserved to have contributed to a winning performance. Moore joined Wrexham from Sheffield United ahead of the 2025-26 season, the BBC report noted.
Wrexham’s next fixture is another home match, against bottom-placed Preston North End on Saturday. Parkinson called for a strong collective response and said there was resilience within the squad at the training ground. The immediate task follows a defeat in which Wrexham’s second-half lead was overturned despite another scoring contribution from Moore.
