WCL Semi-Final: Smith Strikes After Lyon Error as Arsenal Trail in Madrid
Arsenal fell behind against Lyon in the Women's Champions League semi-final after another defensive error allowed Lia Wälti to score before Miri Smith leveled.

Arsenal find themselves trailing Lyon 1-0 at halftime in their Women's Champions League semi-final clash at the Estádio Alfredo Di Stéfano in Madrid. The Gunners were dealt an early blow when a defensive mix-up allowed Lia Wälti to fire Lyon into a seventh-minute lead, though Arsenal responded strongly through Miri Smith.

Watch the highlights:

The hosts capitalised on a mix-up between goalkeeper and defender, with Wälti reacting first to slot into an empty net. Arsenal, winners of this competition in 2007, showed their composure to equalise just four minutes later when Smith headed home from a corner.

The match remains finely poised as both teams search for a place in the final against either Barcelona or Wolfsburg, who play the second semi-final on Sunday. Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall will be aware that an away goal could prove crucial in the return leg at the Emirates.

"We knew Lyon would be a stern test. The first goal gave us a wake-up call, but the response was excellent," said Smith after the first half. The match is being played in Madrid due to scheduling conflicts with Arsenal's home stadium.

The winners will face either Barcelona or Wolfsburg in the final on May 22 at the Estadio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
