Washington Huskies Secure Future with Coach Langley Extension Through 2031-32
The University of Washington has locked in women's basketball head coach Tina Langley through the 2031-32 season following a remarkable turnaround.

The University of Washington has demonstrated its commitment to the continued growth of its women's basketball program by extending head coach Tina Langley's contract through the 2031-32 season. Athletic director Pat Chun announced the extension Thursday, highlighting the dramatic transformation Langley has orchestrated over five seasons in Seattle.

Langley's journey with the Huskies represents one of college basketball's most compelling rebuilding stories. When she arrived, Washington was struggling at the bottom of the Pac-12 conference. Her inaugural campaign saw the team post a disappointing 7-16 record, with just two victories in conference play.

The 52-year-old coach has systematically built the program from the ground up, showing consistent improvement each year. The culmination of her efforts became evident this past season when the Huskies achieved their highest win total under her leadership, finishing 22-11 overall.

That 22-win campaign marked Washington's most successful season since 2016-17 and earned the program its second NCAA Tournament appearance under Langley's guidance. The Huskies' March Madness run ended in heartbreak, falling to TCU 62-59 in overtime during the second round, but the tournament berth validated years of steady progress.

Over her five-year tenure, Langley has compiled an 83-71 overall record, transforming a program that had languished in mediocrity. Her steady approach has resonated with players and administration alike, creating a foundation for sustained success.

Chun praised Langley's leadership qualities and her ability to adapt to the evolving landscape of college athletics. The athletic director emphasized how she has positioned the program for continued growth amid the changing dynamics of college sports, including transfer portal considerations and Name, Image, and Likeness opportunities.

Before arriving in the Pacific Northwest, Langley established herself as a proven winner at Rice University. During her six-year tenure with the Owls, she compiled an impressive 126-61 record and guided the program to at least 21 wins in each of her final five seasons.

Her coaching pedigree includes valuable assistant coaching experience at several prestigious programs, including Toledo, Clemson, Georgia, and Maryland. This diverse background provided her with the tools necessary to understand different conference dynamics and recruiting territories.

Langley expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue building something special in Seattle. She emphasized the character of her players and coaching staff while acknowledging the unique environment that Washington provides for student-athletes.

The contract extension signals Washington's belief that Langley can elevate the program to new heights. With recruiting momentum building and a clear development trajectory established, the Huskies appear positioned to become a consistent contender in whatever conference alignment awaits them.

For a program that has experienced its share of struggles, this extension represents stability and ambition. Langley's track record suggests Washington women's basketball is entering its most promising era in recent memory.
