Warwickshire Rout Glamorgan by an Innings and 257 Runs

Warwickshire completed a crushing innings-and-257-run victory over Glamorgan inside two days at Sophia Gardens on Wednesday, strengthening their County Championship Division One title challenge. BBC Sport reported that Glamorgan were dismissed for 65 in their second innings after Warwickshire had built a first-innings lead of 322.

The visitors resumed day two on 154 for three and extended their total to 391. Sam Hain led the scoring with 76, Will Young made 60 and Ed Barnard contributed 51. Hain and Barnard added 86 before Hain edged Mason Crane to slip, while Barnard reached his half-century from 72 balls before Kiran Carlson dismissed him.

Kai Smith finished unbeaten on 49 as Warwickshire secured a substantial advantage. Chris Woakes also passed 7,000 first-class runs during the innings before Timm van der Gugten had him caught behind with the new ball. Glamorgan's Kellaway took three wickets for 79.

Glamorgan, who had made only 69 in their first innings, again struggled against Warwickshire's attack. Teenage debutant Jack Hope-Bell was dismissed for a pair when he edged Woakes to slip. Asa Tribe scored 27 and helped take the total to 42 with Carlson, but four wickets in successive overs then left the home side in severe trouble.

Barnard removed Tribe leg before wicket and had Colin Ingram caught at slip, while Oliver Hannon-Dalby dismissed Carlson lbw and bowled Kellaway. Barnard finished with five for 13 in the innings and match figures of eight for 18. Manav Suthar took three wickets without conceding a run, and Glamorgan's final four wickets fell with the score unchanged.

The result gave Warwickshire 22 points and Glamorgan three, applying pressure to fellow title contenders Somerset and Nottinghamshire with two rounds remaining. Warwickshire are scheduled to visit Essex from September 15, while Glamorgan travel to Surrey on the same date. Glamorgan head coach Richard Dawson described the performance as unacceptable in comments to BBC Sport Wales and said players and staff had to respond honestly before their next match.
