Warwickshire Edge Sussex by One Wicket in Edgbaston Thriller
Chris Woakes guided Warwickshire to a one-wicket County Championship victory over Sussex at Edgbaston. The Bears reached 206-9 in pursuit of 203 after a tense final-wicket finish.

Warwickshire completed a one-wicket victory over Sussex on the third day of their County Championship Division One match at Edgbaston, reaching 206-9 in a chase of 203. Chris Woakes finished unbeaten on 23 and struck the winning boundary after a tense final-wicket stand with Ollie Hannon-Dalby. BBC Sport carried the match report from the ECB Reporters' Network.

Watch the highlights:

Sussex began the day on 84-3 and were dismissed for 207 in their second innings. Tom Haines made 67, the first half-century of the match, before edging Ed Barnard to second slip. Ethan Bamber took 3-42, while Woakes, Barnard and the rest of Warwickshire's seam attack shared the work of setting up the chase.

Warwickshire then slipped early as Sean Hunt bowled Rob Yates and wickets from Jaydev Unadkat and Henry Crocombe removed Zen Malik and Will Young. Vansh Jani and Dan Mousley changed the direction of the innings with a fourth-wicket partnership of 107 in 24 overs. Jani made 62, his maiden first-class half-century, and Mousley contributed 58.

Hunt pulled Sussex back into contention with three wickets in 11 balls, dismissing Mousley, Barnard and Jani. Alex Davies then edged Crocombe to slip, leaving Warwickshire's final three wickets needing 47 runs. Woakes and Michael Booth added 23 before Booth played on to Hunt, who completed figures of 5-65 and took nine wickets in the match.

Bamber helped Woakes add another 23, but edged Crocombe to wicketkeeper John Simpson with the scores level. Hannon-Dalby joined Woakes for the last wicket, and the pair negotiated 13 consecutive scoreless deliveries before Woakes edged Unadkat for four to end the match. Warwickshire collected 19 points from the win, while Sussex took three.

The result kept Warwickshire in the Division One title race ahead of a home match against reigning champions Nottinghamshire. Sussex also remained involved in a tightly contested championship battle and are due to face Somerset at Hove. Woakes said the chase became more difficult as pressure built, while Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace praised his team's effort and commitment despite the narrow defeat.
