Warrington beat Leeds 14-12 to reach Super League Grand Final

Warrington Wolves secured a place in the Super League Grand Final with a 14-12 victory over Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley on Friday, September 25. Leeds' official website confirmed the semi-final result, leaving the visitors through to the competition's deciding match and ending the home side's playoff campaign.

According to the Guardian, Ewan Irwin's penalty following an off-ball infringement against George Williams decided the match with 15 minutes remaining. The half-back is 18, according to his Warrington player profile, and made his first-team debut in April 2025. His decisive contribution comes less than 18 months after that senior introduction.

Warrington had reached the semi-final by beating reigning champions Hull KR 35-12 in the previous weekend's eliminator, the club's published playoff record confirms. The Wolves therefore followed a home knockout victory with an away success, eliminating two opponents on their route to Old Trafford rather than advancing directly from the regular season to this semi-final.

The teams had finished the regular season level on 40 points, with Leeds taking second place ahead of third-placed Warrington on points difference. Warrington's pre-match club information also records Leeds victories in both earlier league meetings: 26-22 at Headingley in March and 34-6 in June. Friday's result reversed that pattern at the knockout stage, when defeat meant elimination.

Irwin already had a final victory against Leeds on his record at academy level. Warrington's academy report records him captaining the side that beat Leeds 32-18 in the September 2025 Grand Final, completing an unbeaten season. He converted all six of his kicks and received the man-of-the-match award. The club subsequently announced a five-year contract running through the end of the 2030 season.

Warrington must now wait to learn their opponents. The club's published playoff schedule lists Wigan Warriors against Wakefield Trinity in the remaining semi-final on Saturday, September 26. The winners will meet Warrington at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 3, with the Grand Final scheduled to start at 6pm local time.
