Walker scores twice as Chiefs beat Dolphins to reach 3-0

Kenneth Walker III scored twice as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-10 on Sunday, extending their unbeaten start to 3-0. Patrick Mahomes passed for 246 yards and two touchdowns, according to the Associated Press game report carried by CBS Sports. Miami fell to 0-3.

Walker supplied Kansas City's opening touchdown on a 10-yard run. Miami's official match report described a six-play, 67-yard opening drive, followed by a much longer response from the hosts: 17 plays covering 91 yards. Ollie Gordon II finished that possession with a three-yard rushing touchdown to bring Miami level at 7-7.

The Dolphins lost De'Von Achane to injury during their opening possession, and he did not return, the club reported. Miami nevertheless stayed within reach, with Riley Patterson's 37-yard field goal cutting the deficit to 14-10 after halftime. Harrison Butker later restored a seven-point Kansas City advantage with a 34-yard kick.

Walker's second score came on a five-yard reception from Mahomes. The Chiefs quarterback subsequently found Travis Kelce for an 11-yard touchdown that provided the final margin. AP reported that Kelce scored with 2:55 remaining, after Kansas City's defense had stopped Miami on fourth down at the Dolphins' 48-yard line.

Miami quarterback Malik Willis completed 20 of 36 passes for 210 yards and added 56 yards rushing, according to the Dolphins. Chris Bell led their receivers with 67 yards from four catches. Those contributions were not enough to deliver a first victory in the team's home opener at Hard Rock Stadium.

Kansas City joined Buffalo, San Francisco, Minnesota and Las Vegas as the five teams still unbeaten after Sunday's games, BBC Sport reported. The Bills beat the Chargers 24-16, while the 49ers defeated Arizona 36-30 behind four touchdown passes from Brock Purdy.

The Chiefs also avoided the close finishes that dominated much of the day's schedule. BBC Sport reported that 12 of Sunday's 14 games were settled by eight points or fewer, equalling the NFL record for one-score games in a single day. Kansas City's two-touchdown margin put its victory outside that group.
