Wales call up Macs Page after Rio Dyer leaves squad with hamstring injury
Wales have brought uncapped Scarlets back Macs Page into their Nations Championship squad after Rio Dyer was released with a hamstring injury, BBC Sport reported. The change gives Page another opportunity to pursue his first international appearance, although he must first complete return-to-play protocols following a head injury sustained on club duty in South Africa.
Dyer suffered his injury while scoring for Dragons against Ospreys last weekend. The 26-year-old had earned a recall from Wales head coach Steve Tandy following a strong start to the season, but will now return to his club for rehabilitation. His latest appearance for Wales came against South Africa last autumn, the most recent of his 24 caps. He was absent from both the Six Nations and summer squads.
Page's own fitness is also a factor in the reshaped squad. The 21-year-old scored his fifth try of the season during Scarlets' match against Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday, then struck his head heavily on the ground while trying to add another. According to the BBC report, he received oxygen while being helped off the field. He will have to go through the return-to-play process before seeking a Test debut.
The call-up follows an earlier opportunity to join the international set-up without making an appearance. Page travelled with Wales to Japan in 2025 but did not play on that tour. He can operate at outside centre as well as in the back three, giving Tandy more than one positional option once the required return-to-play steps have been completed.
Among the back-three options in the squad, Page joins Scarlets colleagues Ellis Mee and Blair Murray. Louis Rees-Zammit, Tom Rogers, Josh Adams and Gabriel Hamer-Webb are also available choices. His inclusion brings another in-form club player into that group, but does not itself confirm a place in a match-day side.
Wales open their November programme against Japan in Cardiff on 7 November before hosting New Zealand and Australia. They will then face another southern hemisphere opponent during the Nations Championship finals weekend at Twickenham's Allianz Stadium at the end of the month.
