Vuskovic Header Rescues Brighton Point Against Unbeaten Leeds

Luka Vuskovic scored a second-half equaliser as Brighton recovered to draw 1-1 with Leeds United at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. Jayden Bogle had put the visitors ahead after 15 minutes, but Vuskovic headed in with 19 minutes remaining to deny Leeds a first win at Brighton since 2009.

According to The Guardian, Leeds controlled much of the opening hour and created repeated opportunities. Dominic Calvert-Lewin dragged one attempt wide after being sent through, although a late offside flag followed, and later rounded goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen before Lewis Dunk slid across the goal line to stop his shot.

The opening goal came when Verbruggen parried a Calvert-Lewin header to Ao Tanaka. The midfielder squared the ball for Bogle, who converted from close range. It was the first Leeds goal in nine visits to Brighton, a run dating back to November 2012.

Leeds continued to threaten either side of halftime. Tanaka struck the crossbar, while Anton Stach went close from short range early in the second half. Stach then supplied a cross that Tanaka turned beyond Verbruggen, but the goal was disallowed because Tanaka was narrowly offside.

Brighton eventually changed the direction of the contest and produced 17 second-half shots, The Guardian reported. Charalampos Kostoulas worked through four defenders before shooting at James Trafford, and the Leeds goalkeeper later stretched to push Malick Yalcouyé's effort around the post. Vuskovic then met Maxim De Cuyper's corner to bring the hosts level.

The home side had further chances to win. Yasin Ayari sent an attempt at Trafford, Promise David lifted a shot over the bar, and Pascal Gross fired too high from six yards. Leeds nevertheless held on to remain unbeaten through their first three league games.

Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler said his team improved its intensity, energy and work in individual duels after the break, but added that it needed to start matches better. Leeds manager Daniel Farke viewed an away point positively given the club's recent record at Brighton, while acknowledging that his side had enough first-half opportunities to establish a decisive lead.
